Markku Tauriainen Preface Inspire Me -bookNew snow fell slowly. Christmas 1972 was approaching. The neighbor boys were selling pins from door to door. A frosty evening raised the little boy, Markku’s competitive instinct in a way that brought a lump in the throat.

   Something had to be done about it and quickly. In the home kitchen, Markku’s anxious father turned to his side: “Dad, can I sell something?”

   With his father´s instructions the young enthusiastic salesman went to the nearest village shop ― asked from the woman director: “What are the best-selling Christmas cards and how many do you have for sale?”

   Immediate business took place at the local shop. Markku bought all the commercially available cards with the money received from his father. This action, almost totally on instinct, started the road to success.

   The same evening, the Christmas cards were on the kitchen table. Markku sought instructions from his father: “What do I have to say at the door when someone comes to open? What price shall I use? What do I say if they want to buy?”

   There was no doubt that the little man was in earnest. Courage, and guidelines for action, only lasted a few minutes. A new retailer moved to present his business idea to the neighbor’s boys. A small conference was the result. Two boys under 10 years old went out boldly to sell door to door. At this point, Markku heard that Jari’s older brother sold the pins with the war veterans illegally inflated prices.

   I need to sell, I need to sell ― sorry to bother you, I’m sorry to bother you, Markku repeated, perfecting the words aloud for what to say when the first door opened. “Good evening, I’m sorry to interrupt. My name is Markku, we sell Christmas cards, 25 pence each. Have you bought Christmas cards yet? Then the young Entrepreneur flashed his best aces forward.

   Huge heat came upon a small heart, when the first card deal was done. I succeeded! Trade is booming ― the next customer, they buy? The first evening was a huge success. Local families bought all the Christmas cards (those who had not yet purchased). Only one old witch refused to purchase, while she could buy cards five pence cheaper 100 meters away store. Talking was eating into confidence so the young merchants hit the ground running.

   Good results had been immediately informed to the parents. Almost all cards had been sold and the profits had been born in a nice way ― by making cash deals only! Victory was celebrated at home base.

   As early as two weeks from that time, I next sold my mother’s manufactured leather gloves, again door-to-door. Two years passed by and I got a week’s break from school to travel with my father as an interpreter on an export journey to Sweden. I no longer talked to the housewives, but the store owners, managers and buyers: “I’m sorry to be a nuisance – we are a family business ― and we sell these nice designer gloves…

   In my book I go through all about sales with my 30+ years’ experience; things I learned, including juicy stories and successes ― on which they were based.

Inspire Me Diamond 2013Every human develops during his life. The best hints and wisdom are diamonds in the people´s pockets. Someone has already found and collected them. You only have to ask and be interested in the time and the moment, which you get with your customer.

Often older people have pockets full of diamonds ― all kinds of diamonds. It is worth being interested about them.

One young, successful male seller I met in telemarketing was specialised in food and pastry recipes. He told me that old people are gold mines of recipes. They have developed them for years. When you show genuine interest, they reveal the recipes of their best tidbits and delicacies. You can make a deal and get recipe hints as well.

And when you are holding a new diamond you are more powerful as a seller when you pass their experiences on to other customers.

Do not belittle old people. They have pockets full of diamonds, wisdoms, which you get by showing genuine interest in the work they have done. Do not think negatively about any living creature.

Life is around you. Also experiences and wisdoms. When someone tells you secrets and advices of sales, receive them. When you get to total flood, matters will glide to your thoughts like music. In my opinion, one song which brings pleasure is Frankie Valley´s Can´t Take My Eyes off You, which was also played in film The Deer Hunter. Listen the song often, and you get to good mood from it and you get to the highway of enthusiasm. Do not take your eyes off sales! Make Sales, Sales, Sales!

The Sales Manager Is Also Responsible For Others

Gold Coin Nero RomeSelling is taking responsibility ― first from your own doing, after this more widely. When you make deals, solve matters, build sales and are creative, you will be noticed. Your thoughts and views will be heard in your organisation and You probably get more responsibility.

In that case remember to be exemplary in every way and go into responsibility given. It has been given to you also as a possibility: You develop as a human and as a seller. In my opinion, you have earned the sales manager´s place, if you fill at least these five qualities:

1) You are able to motivate your sellers daily

2) You reward, encourage, tirelessly daily

3) You help them to sell, to build up sales

4) You plough the track, you sell most every day

5) You are the “star”, example with words and acts

When you step on the stage with your bigger sword and with your responsibility, more from you is expected. Your sword has to whistle and your voice has to be heard. You have to encourage your subordinates with your example

Your Clean, External Essence

Inspire Me MTThe cleanliness is important to the seller. The cleanliness is half of the food, as it is said. You have to get ready for each day by taking a long shower as if at a holiday resort located on the shore of the Caribbean sea. The use of cosmetics on skin is not bull. Refresh the skin with moisturising or anti-ageing cream to bring pleasure which is significant.

I try to tell you about the importance of the cleanliness to the seller. The blue moment experienced in the morning in the shower is transferred to the customer as a smile and as an expression of a good feeling. The cleanliness is a property, which calms your mind and your soul.

Our speech forms only 10–30 percent of the communication used by us. Another external essence covers the rest. The magic begins a state of mind, especially for your mind and thoughts!

YOUR CLEAN, EXTERNAL ESSENCE
Helena wifeWhen your skin, your nails and your hair are neat, your self–esteem rises and you experience pleasure. You transmit this as a shine to your customer. Beautician Helena (my wife) is shining daily to her customers.

When you choose tidy and clean clothes, you complete your essence. You accept yourself as an actor and as a human. When you look in the mirror, you know that you are ready and can love yourself such as you are. It is easy to smile when you are clean.

Going to the sauna is also worth doing!
